Until then, I might just be hopping onto the Abzan bandwagon and ride some rhinos. Good luck with Modern Masters , I can't wait to see what else is being reprinted!

The land goes to their hand and not in play, so it's not like they're getting to play any of their spells faster.

By the time that extra land you let them draw off Goblin Guide matters, the red aggro deck should have already won the game. User Info: abyss. Goblins are a rush deck. Who cares if they have more land if they die by turn 5?

They can still only play one land a turn regardless. The idea is that you've got a creature with higher stats for an excellent mana cost. The Soul Reaver posted I don't think so. Wild Nacatl would like a word with you. User Info: U Ok, I get it now, especially since I just played a game with it where it was really useful.

I forgot that the opponent doesn't automatically get a land, it's just that every single time I used it before they would get the land. I took it out and wondered what was so great about it since. Thanks for clearing it up guys! User Info: Glover I had a friend that ran a mill deck based off of mind funeral.

He ran it too color heavy though. He also used the white one that exiles a creature and puts a land out. He was trying to run it 4 or 5 colors with as many cards that took land out of a deck for a person as possible. I have no fear, for fear is the little death that kills me over and over.

Without fear, I die but once. While Goblin Guide and its decks can be countered, the other decks in the metagame have to respect them by being prepared for them in the Which brings us to the question: how do we go about fighting this terrifying goblin from Zendikar? Goblin Guide's weaknesses are directly tied to the decks in which it appears. All of these decks are aggressive, red decks that want to end the game in the first four turns. Decks such as Boros Burn and Mono-Red Goblins thus have obvious flaws, such as their weakness to main deck life-gain and inability to interact with faster combo decks.

Decks such as Soul Sisters or Mono-White Martyr are natural predators to Goblin Guide decks because these decks are gaining too much life for aggro decks to overcome.

Burn decks have a finite point of damage that they can deal with their burn spells, and a card like Martyr of Sands can be worth four, five cards for the burn player — a disadvantage that even the most unimpeded Goblin Guides will not overcome. Faster combo decks are also nightmares for the G.

Goryo's Vengeance decks can kill their opponents on turn three or earlier with incidental main deck life-gain, to boot , and the burn decks are ill-equipped to handle any parts of the combo. Amulet Titan is another deck that is a beating for the aggressive Goblin Guide decks, as the "combo" of a turn-three Primeval Titan can either present lethal or build an unwinnable board-state. Most players aren't going to be playing lifegain-centric decks or fast combo decks, however, and this means that their answers to Goblin Guide reside in individual cards.

The micro approach to Goblin Guide takes us down two paths, and the first is a straightforward answer: life gain. Cards that help gain life are powerful when Goblin Guide's sole purpose is to whittle down life totals. Moving away from creatures, non-creature spells such as Collective Brutality can be back-breaking, and Timely Reinforcements and Lightning Helix are all-time favorites of control decks for dealing with Goblin Guide.

Another way to tackle Goblin Guide is by brick-walling a creature that only has two points of power. Creatures such as Tasigur, the Golden Fang and Thought-Knot Seer can come down as early as the second turn, and in the case of the latter, can even nab a burn spell from the opponent's hand.

Hollow One is another viable big creature that can be cheated in for cheap, as is Vengevine.
